I hope you won't mind reading about my design process, if you do... just look at the pictures and ignore the text!
When I designed Creative Girl, I decided to follow my heart. That sounds clichè, but sometimes I second guess my artistic sense. This time I decided to quit listening to my fears and go with my instinct.
This line is personal. This line is my vision. This is the line I designed when I told myself, "I don't care what anyone else thinks." And, at that time I really didn't, but now if I'm honest, I know I kind of do. I hope you love it just as much as I do.
I was inspired by geometrics that I am seeing trending, photo filters on instagram that give a soft hazy and blown out look to things and my inner artist that fell in love with graphic design in 1992 and never fell out of love with it.
The first paper I created is this strong geometric, although I would create 6 more papers before I got the coloring to my liking.
I love this paper! But I wanted some softer things to go with it. The hearts over a fine-line chevron came next. The edges of the colored hearts are a bit blurred and the color changes subtly through them. I also filled some with bits of old paper clippings to keep the line from going too modern. I love the juxtaposition of the sharp, modern chevron with the soft ephemeral hearts.
My personal favorite is typically everyone else's least favorite. So, you may not love this pattern like I do. Here I took circles and "half-dipped" them in color and paper washes. The gray background has a lot of texture to create contrast between the crisp white and strong lines in the circles.
Let's look at one more main design and then we'll look at some of the supporting cast. This paper is a happy accident. The white outlines of the flowers weren't intentional. They appeared by mistake and made the whole design perfect. I love using this romantic paper with the other graphic designs.
All designs can't be the star. There always have to be some papers that will receed to the background to let the others stand out. My favorites in that category are below.
That pretty much sums it up!
PS: For those of you wondering where Eric was during the process. The line is called Creative Girl for a reason. Eric knows when I get passionate about my design to keep a safe distance! He mostly stayed in the kitchen making food for children so they wouldn't interrupt my mojo. Isn't he AWESOME?!
Now for yesterday's winners! Congratulations go to:
