Candles are a big tradition in our family. I discovered long ago that if you turn the lights down low and create some warm, glowing ambience magical things can happen.
No, not that... I mean really magical, like well behaved children!
There is something about a dimly lit room and the warm flicker of battery-operated candles that settles my kids right down to a whisper. Their dinnertime manners improve dramatically with a drop in arguing of 78% and decrease in complaining of 86%. Eye twinkling increases 88% and smiles 65%.
To make these, I used our glitter printed vellum papers from the Simple Surfaces deck. Just punch or cut some places for light to shine through, wrap them around your jars, and turn on your candles. I like to add lids because one child believes I have magical candles that light from within. (Object lesson, taken to heart.)
Embellish them with wood charms and shimmer trims if desired. Then set the mood at your family table. If you've got as many kids as I do, it may just be the most magical night you've had in a long time!
